Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about MyCFO — how it works, what it connects to, and what makes it different.
What it is
What exactly is MyCFO?
MyCFO is an AI-powered personal finance platform that acts as your own Chief Financial Officer. It connects all your bank accounts, investments, and assets in one real-time view — then tells you what it means and what to do next. Not a dashboard. Not a chatbot. A CFO that works from your actual complete financial picture, built specifically for households in Portugal and Spain.
How is MyCFO different from my bank's budgeting app or Revolut?
Your bank's app only sees one account. If you hold accounts at ActivoBank, Revolut, and ING, each app shows a partial picture — and any transfer between your own accounts reads as spending. MyCFO aggregates all accounts, automatically strips inter-account transfers from your spending totals, and applies AI intelligence across the complete picture. Your bank's app is a transaction list with colour coding. MyCFO is a CFO.
Does MyCFO understand Portuguese and Spanish tax context?
Yes. The AI layer understands Iberian financial context — PPR deduction limits (up to €400/year under 35), the IRS filing calendar, pagamentos por conta, NHR implications, IRPF, Plan de Pensiones, and Hacienda reporting requirements. When your annual PPR deduction window is approaching, MyCFO tells you how much you're short — before you had to ask.
Banks & accounts
Which banks and accounts does MyCFO support?
MyCFO connects to Portuguese and Spanish banks via Open Banking (PSD2), including ActivoBank and Revolut. CSV import is fully supported for ActivoBank, Revolut, and ING Spain. PDF and XLSX from ActivoBank also work. Investment accounts (DEGIRO, IBKR, Trading 212) can be tracked by telling your CFO the current balance — it holds that context going forward.
Does MyCFO support accounts in Spain?
Yes. MyCFO is built for both Portugal and Spain. ING Spain CSV imports are natively supported. The AI understands Spanish tax context — IRPF, Plan de Pensiones, Hacienda reporting. Cross-border households with accounts in both countries are a primary use case.
Can I import CSV files from my bank?
Yes. MyCFO supports CSV exports from ActivoBank (Latin-1 encoding, debit/credit columns), Revolut (completed transactions only), and ING Spain (semicolon-separated, Spanish headers). PDF and XLSX from ActivoBank are also supported. Duplicate imports are detected automatically — re-importing the same file is safe.
How it works
What is Open Banking and how does MyCFO use it?
Open Banking (PSD2 in the EU) requires banks to share your financial data with authorised third-party providers — with your explicit consent. MyCFO uses PSD2-regulated read-only access to pull your transaction history and balances directly from supported banks. You authorise the connection once; MyCFO refreshes the data automatically. You can revoke access at any time from your bank's app.
What is transfer detection and why does it matter?
Transfer detection identifies when money moves between your own accounts — a standing order from ActivoBank to Revolut, for example. Without it, that movement appears as spending in one account and income in another, distorting your savings rate by 8–10 percentage points in a typical multi-bank setup. MyCFO detects these transfers automatically and excludes them from all spending and savings calculations.
Privacy & security
Is my financial data safe with MyCFO?
Yes. MyCFO is private by design. Your data is never used to train AI models, sold to third parties, or used to push financial products. Bank connections use PSD2-regulated read-only access — MyCFO can read your transactions and balances, but cannot make payments or access your login credentials. MyCFO operates on a subscription model. Your interests are the only incentive.
